What is the best price I should pay for SEO services?

What is the going rate for SEO services? There are hundreds of companies. Some charge $1,500 or more. Some are only $400. What is the average price for a good SEO?

I can't imagine there's just ONE "best" price to pay for SEO services. Some companies charge more because they are larger, have more employees, more resources, more lights to keep on, more expenses, etc... and some charge more for their expertise. I'd say use your common sense. $1,500 per month for SEO seems outrageous to me.  If you call 5-6 companies and 3-4 of them are charging around $400, that would seem like a reasonable price to me.  SEO is intangible and very hard to put a specific value on.
